Sabitzer Shines, Scoring Late and Setting Up Two Goals for Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2013 after a thrilling 5-4 aggregate victory over Club Atlético de Madrid. The match at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday night was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading blows and the lead changing hands several times.
Dortmund took the lead in the 15th minute through a stunning goal from Jadon Sancho. The English winger cut inside from the left flank and curled a beautiful shot into the top corner. However, Atlético Madrid equalized just seven minutes later through a header from Ángel Correa.
The second half was just as entertaining, with both teams continuing to create chances. Dortmund regained the lead in the 54th minute through a penalty from Marco Reus. However, Atlético Madrid once again equalized, this time through a goal from Saul Niguez in the 64th minute.
With the match seemingly destined for extra time, Marcel Sabitzer popped up with a late winner for Dortmund. The Austrian midfielder scored a stunning goal from outside the box in the 89th minute, sending the home crowd into raptures.
Dortmund held on in the dying minutes to secure a memorable victory. The German side will now face Manchester City in the semi-finals, with the first leg to be played at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday, April 24.
This was the first time Dortmund have scored four goals in a Champions League match at home since a 4-0 win vs Atlético in the 2018/19 season.
